January 2023: Your webmaster has completed creating the Great 2003 LE-JoG Tour tale. See here: 2003 LEJOG TOUR Any comments, additions, etc. welcome.
The Gallery page content has also been changed. See here : Galleries
Because of the way WordPress manages photosets as “Galleries” (i.e. a group of pictures embedded into a webpage) and “Albums” (a group of Galleries collated together), the easiest way to display the latter is if individual photos have EXIF data tags embedded into them, with keywords (such as LEJOG, or Mallorca, or MTB, etc) which means a HUGE exercise to re-tag photos BEFORE UPLOADING THEM. So, major work-in-progress, but do bear with it.
All of 2020 – The annus horribilus. All club activity went into hold, as the Covid-19 coronavirus and consequent Lockdowns / Social Distancing / etc were enforced. Now, where was that Turbo Trainer?

The Championship Year – 2016
2016 has been a very eventful year from a Championship perspective though this was initially kick started in 2015 at the Stockton Duathlon Festival where I qualified by right for the 2016 Kalkar ETU (European) Duathlon Standard distance championships. This turned out to be my first International event and although the weather was not the best on the day the outcome was to provide further championship experience. By being a top 3 British finisher and placing in the top 10, I was to later learn that I had pre-qualified for the 2017 Championships.
Competing in the Clumber Park Duathlon earned me my next qualification place for the 2016 Aviles ITU (World) Duathlon Standard distance championships, the weather being the least of the issues finishing less placed then in my previous races but all valuable experience none the less.
My third successful championship qualifier was to be a departure from Duathlon to Triathlon.
This race the Llandudno Triathlon was a qualifier for the 2016 Cozumel ITU (World) Sprint Triathlon Championships which was also the Grand final of the Triathlon and took place in September.
2016 in Summary
No. | Qualifier | Qualification | Championship | When |
1 | Stockton Duathlon 2015 | Q4 | 2016 Kalkar ETU Standard Duathlon European Championships | 16-Apr-16 |
2 | Clumber Park Duathlon 2016 | Q2 | 2016 Aviles ITU Standard Duathlon World Championships | 05-Jun-16 |
3 | Llandudno Triathlon 2016 | Q2 | 2016 Cozumel ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships | 15-Sep-16 |
4 | Aviles ITU Duathlon 2016 | PQ3 | 2017 Soria ETU Standard Duathlon European Championships | 29 Apr 17 |
5 | Oulton Park Duathlon 2016 | Q2 | 2017 Soria ETU Sprint Duathlon European Championships | 29 Apr 17 |
In 2017 whilst nothing is certain I will be trying to add Sprint Duathlon and Standard Triathlon championships to my list of achievements.
9-5-2016 – Special offer of half price membership (£6) for anyone wishing to join the club for the first time.
2-4-2016 – Scout road at the Mytholmroyd end of the Silver Route is still closed and there is no sign of any work being done yet so I think it will stay that way for a long time.
21-03-2016 Something to look forward to.

14-03-2016 Cafe News
One of the most important parts of our Sunday rides is, of course, the cafe stop. Here is the latest news.
Most of Hebden Bridge seems to have returned to normal after the floods but the Watergate on Bridge street is still being renovated. I tried the cafe opposite (Rendezvous?) and found that my beans on brown toast with an egg (by way of a change!!) was very good and reasonably priced. The cafe is under new management.
A new addition to the list is the Drop Off Cafe on Market Street in Edenfield. (Opened September 2015). It is at the side of the old Co-op building more or less opposite Strachan’s Chemist. This is a very well fitted out and smart establishment with strong cycling connections. I only had a piece of millionaire (?) shortbread and a tea as I was pushed for time but the shortbread was excellent! The owner Colin is a keen cyclist I understand. The cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
Mike tells me there is a new cafe in Ripponden but I do not have any details yet. Watch this space!

15-02-2016 – Scout road at the Mytholmroyd end of the Silver Route is still closed and there is no sign of it being re-opened any time soon.
09-02-2016 – One of our members (Chris Forde) has qualified for the European Duathlon Championships which take place in Kalkar, Germany on the weekend of the 16-17th of April 2016. He was asked to give us an idea of what’s involved and so the following is his story.
“I qualified for this in April 2015 at the Stockton Duathlon Festival competing at the standard distance event. The Standard distance event consists of a 10k run, 40k cycle and 5k run.
In 2014 this was a World Championship qualifier and in 2016 it’s the Triathlon England National Championship, qualification events being rotated around the various venues.
Requirements for qualification are to be a member of Triathlon England, enter a qualifying event, register your intention to qualify. There is a fixed number of places per age group with automatic qualification being awarded to the first four eligible athletes in each age group at each qualification race.
Remaining places allocated via pre-qualification, discretionary places and roll down places.
All athletes are expected to complete their qualification race in a time within 120% of the winner of their age group.
As one of the first 4 athletes in my age group I qualified automatically.
Including this event I will be doing 3 duathlons in 2016.
One of my other events is the Bolton Ironman. This will be my second appearance at this event, classified in the top 10 of the world hardest triathlons.
Consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile run which must be completed in under 17 hours.
This takes place on Sunday 17th July starting in Pennington Flash at 6 am.
What are the cut off times?
Swim: 2 hours 20 minutes, with a further 10 minutes allowed to mount the bike.
Bike: 10 hours 30 minutes. additional cut offs will apply on the bike courseto ensure that roads can be re-opened on schedule.
Run: 17 hours. A cut off will apply at the start of the third lap.
Including this event I will be doing a total of 18 triathlons for 2016.
Events to date in 2016:
1st Jan – Billy Knox 5k run.
31st Jan – Meltham 10k run.
Forthcoming:
14th Feb – Liversedge Half Marathon.
24th Feb – Radcliffe 10ml trail race.
5th March – Duathlon.
13th March – Parbold duathlon.

Q1 preparation events for the ETU (European Triathlon Union), Standard Distance, Age Group, European Duathlon Championships.
Pure cycling activities may appear to be lacking but are incorporated in the training schedule along with the swimming and are more prominent in Q2.”
